“hole; cavity” > “penetrating; thorough; zero”
From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *dwa(ː)ŋ (hole; orifice; cave; pit; well). Cognate with Burmese တွင်း (twang:), Tibetan དོང (dong, deep hole; pit) and Jingpho kha-thung (well, pit).
